The Ryder Cup of the Kenya Coast
The PGA arranged Ryder Cup is recognised “as one of the world’s greatest golfing events. Drama, tension, incredible golf, camaraderie and sportsmanship are served in equal measure”. It is a biennial men's golf competition between the County of the US and a mixed European team.
In 2023 the Vipingo Ridge Golf Club Committee conceived the concept of our very own version of the Ryder Cup on the PGA Baobab Course. Our event is a Kenya team versus The Rest of the World (ROW) team, we also have our men and women players participating in this mixed event.
For Vipingo Ridge Golf Club Members only, this is an event of endurance as well as all the wonderful attributes of the original Ryder Cup or camaraderie and sportsmanship.
The 2024 Vipingo Ridge Ryder Cup competition was held over three days, from 15th to 17th November, between Kenya and the Rest of the World (ROW).
A winning match gets one point. A draw gets 1/2. The team that gets 11 points after three days wins the trophy.
An event update from Club Captain Richard Frost
“It was a close match as the ROW were leading by two points on Saturday (6 and 4).
Kenya came back on Sunday winning seven matches to the ROW's four and won the competition by one point (11 and 10).
Well played Kenya, led by the team Captain Betty Bundotich, especially after the ROW won in 2023 by a large margin. Thanks to Joe Carvalho the ROW team Captain for introducing this exciting format to the club last year.
We all look forward to a return match in 2025. Captain Richard.”
