Kilifi Leadership Support Naom Wafula Ahead of Pro Golf Debut
Vipingo Ridge’s own Naomi Wafula continues to break barriers as the first female professional golfer under the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK).
Ahead of her debut professional tournament next week in Limuru, she received a heartfelt show of support from Kilifi County leadership.
A fortuitous visit to Kilifi County leadership
Naom had the honour of meeting Governor H.E. Gideon Mung’aro, OGW, and Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya through Mr. Charles Kamau, Head of Partnerships Kilifi County, who works closely with Vipingo Ridge.
Both leaders celebrated Naomi’s achievement and pledged their full support. In recognition of her milestone and upcoming tournaments, Governor Mung’aro and CS Mvurya each contributed funds to support Naomi’s travel and participation at her first event, as she begins her journey on the Golf Pro circuit. Naom will be teeing off at her first professional event in Limuru later this month.
“It was a proud moment to represent Kilifi and to see how much value our leadership places on sports and its potential to uplift communities,” Naomi said. “I remain committed to carrying the Kilifi flag high wherever I compete.”

Naom received by Her Excellency the Deputy Governor
Naomi was warmly welcomed by H.E. Flora Chibule, Deputy Governor of Kilifi County, who praised her for inspiring young girls across the region.
In a symbolic gesture, the Deputy Governor gave Naom a Giriama (Mijikenda) name; Naomi “Karembo” Wafula, celebrating the culture of the Kenyan Coast, home to the Mijikenda community.
“Her story proves that talent and determination can overcome any background,” said the Her Excellency the Deputy Governor.
The future is bright for women’s golf in Kenya
Naomi’s journey marks a significant step for women’s golf in Kenya. Kilifi County and Vipingo Ridge are proud that Naomi calls the PGA Baobab Course her home.
Naom’s story is already inspiring a new generation, and with continued support, she is poised to make an even greater impact.
