A list of 54 players including four amateurs were listed to play for the third leg of the Kenya Open Golf Limited organized Safari Tour whose opening round is set for Sunday at the PGA Baobab Course Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County.

Earlier, 55 players had entered their names though Zimbabwe’s Ignatius Mketekete withdrew from the tournament which will be played under better conditions than during the Kenya Amateur Stroke Play Championship in October.

The course apparently is in its best condition and depending on how the course is set, some interesting scores are likely to be posted this week.

Of those who confirmed to play includes three Zimbabweans Robson Chinhoi, Nyasha Muyambo and Visitor Mapwanya who had been taking part in the Malawi Open where Mapwanya was leading on Friday’s final round.

Representing Uganda will be Deo Akope who won the Coast leg of the Tour at Nyali Golf and Country Club last year, Willy Kitata, Ronald Rugumayo and female pro Irene Nakalembe, while Malawi has only entered Paul Chadale.

The visitors will battle it out against a big field of Kenyans including amateurs Adel Balala, home player Ronald Simiyu and leading lady amateur Naomi Wafula, and Jacqulyne Walter. During the second leg at Limuru Country Club, the Zimbabwean Nyasha Muyambo posted six under par, to claim the title, beating his compatriot Visitor Mapwanya into second place.

Coming hot from the Malawi Open, the Zimbabweans will be all out to prove a point in the tour. The Kenyan line-up has players like Mike Kisia, Greg Snow, Mutahi Kibugu, Nelson Mudanyi, John Karichu, Dismas Indiza, Simon Ngige, Samuel Njoroge and David Wakhu who are all chasing their first Tour title this season and ofcourse some points towards the Magical Kenya Open 2023.

Though the first round draw was yet to be finalised, teeing off is however, expected from 10am on Sunday.
